Plant breeding is the science of modification of plant traits in order to produce desired characteristics. Plant breeding can be accomplished through various techniques ranging from selective breeding of plants with desirable characteristics for propagation, to more complex molecular techniques. It is practiced worldwide by farmers and gardeners, or by plant breeders employed by organizations such as universities, crop-specific industries, research centers and government institutions.
