Then in the year 1944, it was renamed the TATA Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 marked an important landmark in the history of the institute, as it was declared Deemed to be a University under University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0This University is known to provide higher education to build a career in the domain of vocational courses. TATA Institute of Social Sciences is approved by UGC and AICTE and is accredited by NAAC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vision of the TATA Institute of Social Sciences is to provide excellent higher education that with time continuously responds to changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, creating a people-centered, ecologically sustainable society that promotes and protects dignity, equality, social justice, and human rights.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>The Vision and Mission of TATA Institute of Social Sciences<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With its vision and guiding principles, this institute facilitates the development of committed professionals for practices, research, and teachings, develops and disseminates knowledge, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/blog\/career-in-social-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and also reaches out to a large number of communities through extension, at the local, national, regional, and international levels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The TATA Institute of Social Sciences works towards its vision through:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Focus on creating socially relevant and high-quality education in a wide range of interdisciplinary areas of social sciences for a large number of students from different sections of the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facilitating autonomous research along with dissemination of knowledge.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporting knowledge creation through M.Phil and Ph.D. programs and Postdoctoral scholars.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Initiating field action to demonstrate and facilitate the creation of policies and programs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teaching professional response to natural and man-made disasters through engagement in relief and rehabilitation activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Programs Offered at the TATA Institute of Social Sciences<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several courses are offered at the TATA Institute of Social Sciences which include PG Programmes, and Ph.D. Programs, UG Programmes, and Short-Term Programmes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>1. PG Programmes Eligibility Criteria<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates who want to apply for this program at the TATA Institute of Social Sciences should have completed a Bachelor\u2019s or Master&#8217;s Degree of a minimum of 3 or 4 years from a University which is recognized by the University Grants Commission of India. Some of the Master&#8217;s Degree programs provided by the institution will have some additional requirements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates who studied in a 3-year degree program should have cleared all the subjects from the 1st to 4th semester and those who studied in 4-year programs should have passed in all the subjects from the 1st to 6th semester.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The candidates who have fulfilled the above-mentioned conditions must submit their degree certificate and final grade sheet which will act as evidence of completing the eligibility criteria, until then the admission offered will remain provisional.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The information provided in the application will be used for the final selection procedure. If it is found that the information provided by the candidate is incorrect or misleading then the candidature will be canceled and the Institute has the right to take legal action for any act of false declaration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>\u00a0<\/b>2. Master of Philosophy in Psychiatric Social Work at TATA Institute of Social Sciences<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The minimum qualification to get admission in M.Phil programs is a Second Class Master\u2019s Degree from a recognized University in India or Abroad. The applicant must have an average of 55 percent or a grade point of 3.5 under the seven-point scale of the UGC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a provisionally admitted candidate completes all the admission formalities but fails to score the minimum marks demanded at the end of the final year examination of the Master\u2019s degree then the admission will automatically get canceled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>3. Ph.D. and MPhil Eligibility Criteria<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The eligibility criteria for this Ph.D. program offered by the TATA Institute of Social Sciences is the same as the M.Phil Programme. The candidates who hold an M.Phil or a degree equivalent to it awarded by a recognized university in India or Abroad are also eligible to apply for this program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the Ph.D. The program offered by the TATA Institute of Social Sciences candidates will be shortlisted for the Research Aptitude Test (RAT) if they meet the criteria concerning educational qualifications, work experience, and research.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applicants must submit a research proposal which is a compulsory requirement for admission to the Ph.D. Program by the TATA Institute of Social Sciences. The research proposal must have approximately 1,000 words and indicate a specific broad field of study, have a statement of the research problem, scope, and objectives of the study, methodology to be followed, references along with the applicant\u2019s research or work experience in that area, if any.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>4. UG Eligibility Criteria<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The candidates who want to apply must have passed 10+2 or equivalent along with 50% marks from a recognized board. Candidates who have appeared in their 12th examination or Intermediate final exams and are awaiting the results can also apply.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">International students who have studied in a University located in a non-English speaking region must provide proof of English Language Proficiency. The applicant must provide any one of the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">International English Language Testing System (IELTS) where a band of 6.5 is required.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Test of English as a Foreign Language where a score of above 90 is accepted. Candidates must appear for the International Entrance Test (IET).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The eligible candidates who have fulfilled the above-mentioned conditions need to appear for TISS Bachelors Admission Test. The International Students will have to clear the International Entrance Test (IET) and the shortlisted applicants will be called for a skype interview.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The TATA Institute of Social Sciences follows the Choice Based Credit System pattern and the students are provided with a choice of specializations and engage it through field-based research during the last semester.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>5. Nirantar: Continuing Education Programmes (STP)<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several programs are offered by the TATA Institute of Social Sciences under this Nirantar Programme. Those candidates who will fulfill the requirements will be interviewed by the Selection Commission of the institute.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The names of the selected applicants will be displayed on the Notice Board of the Institute, hosted on the official website, and also through email.
