This number is rapidly increasing, as both students and parents are understanding the importance of <strong>academic excellence<\/strong> and <strong>all-round development<\/strong>, which lie at the foundation of the IB curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At present, there are 148 schools that offer the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibo.org\/programmes\/primary-years-programme\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primary Years Program (PYP)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 64 schools that offer the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibo.org\/programmes\/middle-years-programme\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Middle Years Program (MYP)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and 163 schools that offer the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibo.org\/programmes\/diploma-programme\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diploma Program (DP)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but do we understand what the curriculum really is? It puts special focus on inquiry based learning and experiential learning. It fosters the learner\u2019s self efficacy for them to exercise agency and ownership in the learning process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learning and Teaching: It utilizes a transdisciplinary approach of learning and emphasizes on articulating distinctive features of learning and teaching to best support the learners. The learning here challenges the learners to engage critically and creatively with ideas, thoughts and happenings around the world.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The learning Community: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IB does not set examinations or moderate grades for students in the PYP. Students take responsibility for self-learning, and decide what, how much and to what level they wish to study. Doing so instills in them a sense of responsibility towards their learning, and students and teachers together, craft individual study plans for each child.<\/span>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only major assessment that a student has to go through is the PYP Exhibition, which happens in the final year of the PYP. It essentially is an enquiry based, real-life project that a student has to accomplish on their own right from start until the end. This may be anything \u2013 a problem that they face, something they observed, a solution that they yearn for, or an initiative that can better the society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once a student completes the IB \u2013 PYP, they move on to the next stage. The IB \u2013 Middle Years Program.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The IB \u2013 Middle Years Program (MYP)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The IB \u2013 MYP is a framework that encourages students to draw analogies between the real world &amp; textbook knowledge. The MYP is a 5-year program in schools that encourages a student to study all disciplines in education, before they go on to streamline their majors and specialty areas. Any student in the age bracket of 11 \u2013 16 years, can enroll in the program, and study the IB \u2013 MYP Curriculum.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1277\" src=\"https:\/\/bcdn.mindler.com\/bloglive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/06134433\/Blog-4.2-20.png\" alt=\"MYP-IB-Board\" width=\"3313\" height=\"1488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bcdn.mindler.com\/bloglive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/06134433\/Blog-4.2-20.png 3313w, https:\/\/bcdn.mindler.com\/bloglive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/06134433\/Blog-4.2-20-1024x460.png 1024w, https:\/\/bcdn.mindler.com\/bloglive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/06134433\/Blog-4.2-20-770x346.png 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 3313px) 100vw, 3313px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>THE CURRICULUM<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The curriculum requires each student to select a course they want to study, from 8 different subject groups. It is mandatory that a student selects one subject from each group.<\/li>\n<li>Subject groups are: Language &amp; Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals &amp; Societies, Sciences, Maths, Arts, Physical &amp; Health Education, and Design.<\/li>\n<li>The MYP requires that each subject be taught for at least 50 hours, each year.<\/li>\n<li>In their senior years (Year 4 &amp; 5), students have the option to take courses from 6 of the 8 subject groups, and drop two subjects. This is done with the dual objective of providing greater flexibility, and focusing more on individual student needs.<\/li>\n<li>MYP students are required to undertake a long-term project, where they decide upon their learning requisites, learning outcomes, learning pedagogy and impact assessment. It is carried out with the objective of focusing more on developing personal understanding, sense of self, and responsibility towards the community. The MYP Project is extremely crucial, and accounts for external evaluation. Students who complete the MYP in Year 3 or 4 undertake the community project, while students who complete it in year 5, undertake the personal project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>SUBJECTS AT A GLANCE<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Though, the IB Board lists down the following subjects that can be taught under the MYP, the subjects available vary from school to school.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>Arts:<\/u> In the first three years of the MYP, students are required to study a visual-arts discipline, and a performing-arts discipline. Choices can be made from:<\/li>\n<li>Visual Arts<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Marketing-Advertising\/advertising-as-a-career-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Media<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Performing-Arts\/music-as-a-career-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Music<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Dance<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Performing-Arts\/acting-as-a-career-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Theatre<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/blog\/career-in-theatre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">All About A Career In Theatre<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>Design:<\/u> Design is available as<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Animation-Graphics\/ux-designing-as-a-career-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Digital Design<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Animation-Graphics\/ui-designing-as-a-career-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Product Design<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Maths-Statistics\/maths-as-a-career-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mathematics<\/a>:<\/u> MYP Math can be tailored to the needs of the students, and there are two ways they can study Math.<\/li>\n<li>Standard Mathematics<\/li>\n<li>Extended Mathematics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Social-Sciences-Humanities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Individuals &amp; Societies:<\/u><\/a> Students, under the MYP, are required to select at least one subject from:<\/li>\n<li>World\/ Local\/ National History<\/li>\n<li>Geography<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Economics\/economics-as-a-career-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Economics<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Global Politics\/ International Relations<\/li>\n<li>Civics<\/li>\n<li>Philosophy<\/li>\n<li>Business Management<\/li>\n<li>Sociology<\/li>\n<li>Psychology<\/li>\n<li>Anthropology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Social-Sciences-Humanities\/career-in-foreign-language-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Language &amp; Literature:<\/u> <\/a>The language program focuses on developing skills across listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing &amp; presenting in one\u2019s <em>first<\/em> It usually offers a study of a wide range of literary and non-literary text types.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>Language Acquisition:<\/u> Language Acquisition focuses on grasping concepts and developing skills in a foreign language. The teaching and learning is organized in six phases. The student can start with any phase in this subject, depending on his\/ her prior experience in the language they\u2019re learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>Physical and Health Education:<\/u> For this subject, teachers have the flexibility of planning a balanced curriculum that includes different modules of content. The subject focuses on imparting physical and health related knowledge \u2013 nutrition, fitness and training, lifestyle, exercise physiology, sports, first aid, etc. but may also include alternative recreational sports\/ adventure sports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>Science:<\/u> The MYP Science courses usually include Physics, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Physical-Science\/chemistry-as-a-career-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chemistry<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindler.com\/careerlibrary\/Life-Science-Environment\/career-in-biology-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biology<\/a>, but schools may develop and offer other science courses like:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Environmental Science<\/li>\n<li>Life Science<\/li>\n<li>Physical Science<\/li>\n<li>Sport Science<\/li>\n<li>Health Science<\/li>\n<li>Earth Science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>MODUS OPERANDI<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The method of operation varies from school to school, however the IB allows transfer of information as per the following models:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>Discrete Discipline Learning: <\/u>In this model, each discipline under a subject is studied separately &#8211; say, Physics, Chemistry &amp; Biology will be taught, assessed and graded separately.<\/li>\n<li><u>Integrated Discipline Learning:<\/u> In this model, different disciplines of a subject are studies in unity &#8211; say, Physics, Chemistry &amp; Biology will be taught, assessed and graded as one, under the subject of Science.<\/li>\n<li><u>Modular Learning:<\/u> Different disciplines are studied in rotation, as modules &#8211; say, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology will be studied in rotation, as modules, but will be assessed and graded as one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is at the school\u2019s and the student body\u2019s discretion, which model to adopt for teaching which subject.<\/p>\n<p><u>ASSESSMENTS<\/u><\/p>\n<p>All MYP students are subjected to the MYP e-assessments, post which they are given a certificate of success.<\/p>\n<p>The e-assessment assesses the student\u2019s work in two ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>E-portfolio: It is a portfolio of the coursework done in a particular course, up for grading by the examiner.<\/li>\n<li>On-screen examinations: The students are required to give their examinations online. Each test lasts for two hours. One has to undergo a test for each subject they\u2019re studying.<\/li>\n<li>It should be noted here, that external moderation of the MYP Project is mandatory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once a student graduates the MYP successfully, there lies the next big decision.
